How much does a new boiler cost?

The Factors to Consider

There are many factors that will influence your new boiler cost, such as:

  • The size of your house and central heating system
  • Type of boiler
  • The brand and model of boiler you choose

To help you understand the various options in all of these areas we will now discuss them in more detail…

How big is your house?

The demands on your boiler are determined by how many bathrooms need to be supplied with hot water and how many radiators you have in your central heating system, across all the bedrooms, kitchen and living rooms.

The larger this demand the greater the number of Kw output the boiler will need. For example, if you have 1 or 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom then a 24-27Kw boiler should be sufficient. For a house with 4 or 5 bedrooms and 2 or more bathrooms you should be looking at a new boiler in the range of 35-42Kw.

What are the different types of boilers?

The best type of central heating system and boiler for your home should be energy efficient, so you use less energy making your bills lower, whilst providing the best hot water and heating performance.

Combi Boiler

combi boiler is the most common type as it is small and compact, so can be easily housed in a kitchen or garage, and it provides instant hot water as well as controlling your heating. Add to this the fact that no additional water tanks are required and it’s no surprise that combi boilers are the most popular choice for smaller homes with one bathroom.

Standard Boiler

In contrast to the combi boiler, the standard boiler is ideal for larger houses with several bathrooms requiring hot water. It is also useful if water pressure in your house is low, but it does need two separate tanks, one for hot and one for cold water.

System Boiler

The system boiler is very like the standard system but does not require the cold water tank in the loft. It is similarly an ideal option for larger homes with multiple bathrooms and is economical to run.

Back Boiler

A house with a back boiler is likely to be an older system where the boiler is located behind a fireplace and can work off gas, electric or solid fuel. A conversion to a combi boiler would reduce your energy costs.
